Mechanical Engineering Intern, Robot Cell Build

  • Pune, on site
  • Full time or part time, Monday to Saturday
  • 3 to 6 months
  • Stipend from Rs 10,000 per month
About Qnion Robotics

Qnion Robotics builds industrial robot cells that use a camera and AI to find a part and handle it, without fixtures and without teaching the robot each position. We are a small team. Interns here design and build hardware that goes into a working cell, and they take on more of the cell as their work proves itself.

What you will do

  • Assemble and commission a multi-axis positioning stage used to test our vision system.
  • Build the robot cell: the mounting base, the camera mount and the guarding.
  • Design gripper fingers and adapter plates in SolidWorks, 3D print them, test them on the robot and revise them.
  • Build a small conveyor for moving-part trials.
  • Produce manufacturing drawings with dimensions and tolerances, and a bill of materials.
  • Work with fabrication shops and suppliers to get parts made and bought.
  • Route cables and mount sensors together with the electronics team.
  • Help run robot test cycles and record the results.

What you must have

  • A diploma or degree in mechanical, production or mechatronics engineering, completed or in the final year.
  • Working skill in SolidWorks: parts, assemblies and drawings.
  • The ability to read and make engineering drawings with tolerances.
  • Hands-on workshop experience: drilling, tapping, fitting, assembly, and measuring with a vernier caliper and a micrometer.
  • Experience with FDM 3D printing, from slicing to a finished part.
  • The habit of following a written procedure exactly and writing down what happened when it did not fit.
  • Availability on site in Pune, Monday to Saturday, for the full duration. Part-time hours are agreed at the interview.

Good to have

  • Basic electrical wiring: crimping, using a multimeter and reading a wiring diagram.
  • Experience with stepper or servo motors and their drivers.
  • Work with Arduino or a similar microcontroller.
  • Basic Python, or comfort with the Linux command line.
  • Experience mounting and reading sensors.
  • Familiarity with Git. Our drawings, documents and reviews live on a Git server.
  • A role on a student build team, such as BAJA, Formula Student or Robocon.
  • Design experience with aluminium extrusion or sheet metal.

How we work

Every task comes with a written condition that says when it is finished. You build it, and you show that it meets the condition. You will see your parts running on a robot within weeks.

Stipend and duration

The internship runs for 3 to 6 months. The stipend starts from Rs 10,000 per month, is set by the skills you bring, and is revised with performance. That figure is for a full-time intern. A part-time stipend is in proportion to the hours worked.

How to apply

Fill in one form.

It takes about 10 minutes.

  1. Tell us about you and your skills.
  2. Share a link to your resume and photographs of something you built.
